In this beginner’s guide to free Seo keyword research, you’ll learn what keyword research is, why it is important and how to do free keyword research for a Seo plan so that your website can maximize the performance of Seo.

What is Seo keyword research

Seo Keyword research for a website is the process of identifying the words and phrases that people type into google, Bing, YouTube and other  search engines, with the goal of using that information to optimize your website and content.

In other words, it’s finding out what people are searching for online, so you can create content that directly targets their needs and interests.

Research involves connecting the relevance of keywords to a website and its individual pages so that the user can find the best page to answer their query, known as search intent.

Why is keyword research important for Seo

A search engine is a system for collecting information based on user queries which it uses to find relevant information or an answer to. Google’s primary goal is to match users with the most relevant online pages and the best answers to their queries.

Therefore, keyword research is a vital step to your Seo efforts because you need to use it in your content in order to rank in the search results. Your website should appear in the top results when a user searches for a keyword associated with your business online. And to achieve that goal, You must use those terms across your website and content.

But Seo keyword research has more benefits than just a higher ranking, here are some of them:

An engaged audience

It’s important to create content that your customers and prospects will find interesting. You can determine what your audience is searching for with the help of keyword research. After that, you can write content related to it. The content can be blogs, videos, eBooks, white papers, infographics, or other information. The key is your prospects want to learn about it.

High conversions

If you are creating content your prospects find interesting they will want to learn more. But , how  can you tell if the correct people are seeing your content? Check your Google Analytics after you begin showing up in search results for the terms you researched. The statistics will help you see if website visitors are viewing or downloading the content.. They should remain on this page and explore other sections of your website. If not, then the key phrase—or phrases—might not be quite correct.

Prioritize your time

When you know what keywords to write for, you can strategically create content that is relevant to your goals. This helps you stay focused and on task with your efforts. Don’t forget to keep adding more content a little at a time. This will make a huge impact on your website’s traffic in the long run.

Long-term SEO Benefits

Keywords play a pivotal role in search engine optimization (Seo).Businesses may slowly improve their organic search ranks by including well-researched keywords into their website content on a regular basis. By making constant investments in SEO, you may avoid mostly depending on paid advertising and maintain a steady flow of organic traffic.

Types of search intent ( keyword types )

There are four types of keywords that are useful to understand as they categorize the different user intents and can help when planning a keyword strategy.

Informational: Internet users with informational intent want to search for more information on a subject. An example of an informational search is “types of Seo.”

Transactional: An internet user carries out a transactional query with the intent to buy a service or product

Commercial: Users researching brands, products, or services

Navigational: Users wanting to find a specific brand, site, or page (brand searches).

How to do a free Seo keyword research ( 4 steps )

Now you know what SEO keyword research is and why it’s important, but how exactly do you research free keywords and find the right ones to target?

Before answering that you need to know the key elements of keyword research that will help you identify the right target phrases.

  • Volume: The number of people searching for the keyword or phrase
  • Competition: How hard it is to rank for that term
  • Search intent: Whether your website is a relevant destination for people making that search

Step 1:Use google keyword planner to find keyword ideas

One of the best ways to research keywords is to use SEO keyword research tools to make your job as easy as possible.

I recommend using google keyword planner to generate a list of possible keywords to target for your SEO strategy. You can use other free research tools like ahrefs free keyword generator and Ubersuggest.

There will be a section where you can put in a keyword and get more ideas.

In Google’s Keyword Planner, you can get search volume and traffic estimates for keywords you’re considering.

Step 2: look for low-competition keywords

The term “keyword competition,” sometimes known as “keyword difficulty,” describes how challenging it will be to rank for that keyword in the SERPs. The higher the keyword difficulty, the more challenging it will be to earn a top spot in the search results.

You should consider keywords that have little competition. Keywords that don’t already have multiple articles battling for the highest rank can afford you the spot by default — if there’s no one else trying to claim it.

Step 3: Check monthly search volume

You’ll also want to analyze the search volume for the keyword ideas on your list.

The search volume refers to how many people search for that keyword. The higher the search volume, the more people are typing that word or phrase on search engines.

Big companies usually target high search volume keywords; because these brands are already well-known, Google tends to reward them with authority over a wide range of subjects.

Therefore, You should pick keywords with a decent search volume and a lower keyword difficulty, so you have a better chance at ranking at the top of the search results and can drive a decent amount of traffic to your site.

Step 4: Use the keywords in your article

Now that you have done your keyword research, it’s time to use those keywords in your next article.

What I would do is mention those keywords in my article where they fit in the best. I would do each keyword 2 or 3 times depending on how long the article was.

Try to use those words in strategic places like your title, meta description, first paragraph and headings.

Over time, Google will recognize your article and keep bumping you up. If you wrote a good article you will get to the front page for most of the small volume keywords you have chosen.

Free keyword research: Conclusion

You now have a list of keywords that’ll help you focus on the right topics for your business, and get you some short-term and long-term gains.

Remember, Keyword research is an ongoing process, but with these steps, you’ll be well on your way to unearthing valuable keywords that drive targeted traffic and propel your SEO success.
